On June 17, the Pecos-Barstow-Toyah ISD Board of Trustees approved a second package for a new Pecos High School fieldhouse, according to a post on the Pecos-Barstow-Toyah ISD Facebook page.

The comprehensive replacement project aims to deliver entirely new facilities by 2028.

Originally planned as a remodel and expansion, discussions in Summer 2023 led to the decision to construct a completely new athletic facility. athletic

The project will provide new football and soccer fields, as well as a new track, locker rooms, coaches’ offices, classrooms, a weight room, and an athletic training room.

The total cost of the project is $43,909,321.

It was reported that the project will be funded through the district’s capital and 2023 bond funds.

Matilda Torres football was a Central Section champion without a home last season.

“It was rough,” said head coach Joe Marquez. “We almost felt displaced for a little while.”

Torres traveled across town to play home games at Madera High School or Madera South but never had a place they could call their own.

A reported $30 million later, Toro Stadium was built on the campus of the four-year-old high school.

“You get the biggest bang for your buck,” said Marty Bitter, Director of Athletics in Madera Unified.

At maximum capacity, it seats up to 7,000, includes a large press box with three rooms and a covered roof – plus two levels of seating. [KMPH]

More athletic facilities are being planned at Coastal Carolina University, including a new home for some of its indoor teams.

After helping introduce new athletic director Chance Miller on Tuesday, CCU President Michael T. Benson said the school is planning to construct an 8,000-seat arena on the corner of Highway 501 and University Boulevard. The arena would host men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball and serve as a convocation center on campus.

Benson also said the school wants to host high school tournaments and graduations at the planned facility. He added that ground could be broken on the project as early as 2026. He also called it a “generational project” that would be paid for with penny sales tax funding. [WMBF]
